Sometimes life throws us unexpected journeys that will take one’s breath away. That is precisely what happens to Tracy in Nessa Nichols’s novel, My Austrian Castle. Tracy is a young woman who recently finished her college career and is ready to start her life’s work as a nurse. She has already relinquished her college apartment and is planning a move to Chicago. Her path is upended, however, when she receives word of an inheritance from a great uncle she never knew she had.
Tracy’s mother had been adopted and knew nothing about her birth family. However, her uncle knew about her and left her his entire estate in his will. The most significant part of this inheritance includes a castle in a charming Austrian village. Since Tracy’s parents had both passed away, this inheritance now falls to her. Suddenly, she travels to Austria to deal with her newfound property.

Her initial reaction was to deny the inheritance. However, Tracy was beginning her career, and she had no idea what to do with a castle, and more, in Austria, halfway across the world. For legal reasons, however, she must travel to the village, meet with the attorneys, and take care of the paperwork that would allow her to forfeit this property.
On the final leg of her journey, she meets Max, a handsome and intelligent young man who captivates her with his charm and warm nature. They meet on the train when Tracy stumbles, and he is there to catch her fall. This leads to a dinner in the train’s dining car, and the two experience an immediate connection neither can deny. When Tracy misses her stop because they both fall asleep, Max and his grandmother help Tracy find her way back. This allows the two to spend even more time together, and their initial attraction grows more robust.

Tracy is blown away by these newfound feelings of love. After her parents died, she closed herself off from romantic involvement. The pain was too great, and the thought of losing another was too frightening. She was young, and the one college relationship she’d had did not end well. All of this caused her to shut herself off others and concentrate only on her studies. So the love, at first sight she feels with Max is overwhelming for Tracy. She wonders if she can trust this man she just met. Should she let go and see where this will go?
The frantic pace of their romance is due to the fact they both know they have little time together. Tracy only plans on spending a few days in the area. Max is only visiting his grandmother, who usually resides in Germany. The distance seems too great to develop a long-term relationship, but neither can deny what they feel.
As Tracy and Max discover each other, Tracy questions her decision to give up her inheritance. The love the two feel for one another is exhilarating, and she wants to see where it will lead. But because of her naiveté, she isn’t sure if this is real. She doesn’t know if she has enough experience to judge her feelings and those of a man she just met.
My Austrian Castle will delight readers with a breathtaking love affair and a charming look at two young people deciding their future. The enchanting village scenes come alive as Tracy and Max explore her new inheritance. Will this be a brief romantic encounter, or will this be something more? Can Tracy, so new at love, let herself trust Max and stay longer to see where things will lead? Follow these two to see what happens when life’s unexpected journeys create unexpected joys.

I really enjoyed the Castle, it was a nice light easy read.
Thank you! 😊
I so enjoyed reading Nessa Nichols’s The Austrian castle. A short read that is so poignant.
Whoever would have thought that dropping everything to go visit a castle in Austria would lead Tracy to her soul mate? Max is perfectly portrayed as the young fellow who helps her on the train and he and his Grammy then go the extra mile to help Layla find her “castle”. Such a treat to read a romance that was not full of steamy scenes.
Thank you! 😊
